Flat Rectangular Air Bearings

New Way® Flat Rectangular Air Bearings offer a non-contact bearing solution for use in linear applications. By employing our foundational Porous Media Technology™, a thin and stiff layer of air is distributed across a carbon face, removing friction. The natural permeability of carbon provides an even distribution of air offering superior performance unavailable to conventional and orifice-based bearings.

With friction removed, New Way Flat Rectangular Air Bearings are capable of maintaining high speeds and accelerations with impressive fly-height accuracies to deliver nano-level precision. The design itself is inherently crash-resistant as the air is slowly diffused by the porous media in the event of air supply loss, minimizing the chance of surface damage. All of this, coupled with the removal of burdensome oil-based lubrication requirements, greatly improves operational efficiencies.

New Way Flat Rectangular Air Bearings are designed to carry high loads, while also maximizing the bearing surface area for the guide. The design includes a gimballed mount making them easy to integrate or change. The gimbaled mount enables a simple method for alignment and configuration changes, as well as the flexibility to fine-tune as needed.

Flat Rectangular Air Bearing Product Line

With the success of the flat, round porous media air bearing product line, we added the rectangular configuration offer an integration alternative. For some linear motion applications, the rectangular profile provides a more efficient bearing surface alignment.
