New Way Achieves ISO 9001:2000 Certification

New Way® Air Bearings Achieves ISO 9001:2000 Certification for Quality Management System

Certification Reinforces New Way’s Commitment to Customer Service and Satisfaction

Aston, Pennsylvania, USA, November 21, 2008 – New Way® Air Bearings, the world’s largest independent manufacturer of porous media air bearing products, has achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification, a designation demonstrating the organization’s commitment to quality-of-service standards. New Way received its certificate from United Registrar Services, LLC, an independent auditing firm, for meeting guidelines set out by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

“ISO 9001:2000 certification is a significant achievement for New Way Air Bearings,’ said Mike Fernald, Lead Auditor of United Registrar Services. “Everyone involved in the audit was committed to the New Way Air Way Bearings processes and to continually improving on their internal and external customer requirements. The result is a solid foundation for continuous improvement through data use and analysis. Now New Way can demonstrate to its customers and stakeholders this commitment to quality through the use of the systems that were demonstrated to the auditors as the audit was conducted.”

New Way’s road to certification began in November of 2007 with the compilation of all existing internal processes. Working with this repository, the company developed and implemented a thorough Quality Management System (QMS) that conforms to the strict requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standards.

To verify that ISO initiatives were achieved, a comprehensive quality management system review was implemented that addressed all areas of operation – from engineering, product design and manufacturing to delivery and customer service. A series of exhaustive internal process audits followed. Then, in September of 2008, United Registrar Services conducted the official certification audits, resulting in the full certification announced on November 14, 2008.

“This is another major milestone on our company’s quality roadmap,” said Nick Hackett, President and CEO of New Way Air Bearings. “There has been a fundamental commitment to quality here since New Way’s inception. But this certification process, and the hard work over the 12-month period it took to achieve it, demonstrates the commitment we have to our customers.”

The certificate confirms that New Way’s internal quality management system complies with ISO 9001:2000 requirements. Adopted in 1987 by the International Organization for Standardization in Geneva, Switzerland, the ISO quality system was developed in order to establish an internationally recognized standard of quality. Recognized in more than 150 countries, the ISO 9001:2000 standard places a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction, management responsibility, continual improvement, and organizational performance measurement.

“In today’s competitive marketplace, effective quality management is indispensable,” said Jim Moore, New Way Air Bearings VP of Manufacturing. “Customers want to be confident that they are doing business with an organization that can meet or exceed their requirements in a timely manner. Because it is an internationally recognized quality management system, ISO 9001:2000 certification gives New Way customers that confidence.”

The ISO 9001:2000 standard specifies Quality Management System (QMS) requirements focused on an organization’s ability to meet and improve upon customer satisfaction and quality requirements. As part of the certification process, New Way established its own QMS to ensure that the company’s customer support organization continued its long-standing commitment to customer satisfaction.

“We’ve always had a strict quality control system,’ noted Lou Insalaco, New Way Quality Manager. “But conformance to ISO 9001:2000 standards required the implementation of some procedural changes. We identified areas for improvement and streamlined processes. There is no doubt that the additional structure we have added as part of this process provides the framework we need to continuously improve our performance across the organization.”
